Some nights the yard is a stage: a birthday on the patio, the Fourth of July, a porch in October orange. These are our spotlights for those nights. Press the button to step through white, a slow colour cycle and fixed green, blue, red, cyan, yellow and purple; press again and they go back to plain light for every other evening.

• Stage it. Line a fence to wash it in colour, or aim up a palm for a single bold accent.
• Solar all night. Larger laminated panel and a 1500mAh battery for 10–20 hours depending on the mode.
