Picking a lantern for storms and camping
A lantern lights a room; a flashlight lights a direction. For power outages you want both, but the lantern is the one you set on the kitchen table and forget about. Look for a 360-degree glow, a dimmer so it lasts the night, and a warm mode that does not make the room feel like a hospital.
Power options decide how long you stay lit. Rechargeable cells are the cheapest to run, a solar panel is the backup when the outage lasts, and AA batteries are the last line. Our 3-way lanterns carry all three, so a long storm does not become a dark one.

Whichever you have. Our 3-way lanterns take USB power, top up from their small solar panel, and run on AA batteries too, which is the one that matters on day three of an outage.
How many lanterns does a house need?
One per room you actually live in during an outage — usually the kitchen, the bathroom and one bedroom — plus one spare. That is why we pack them in fours.
Do the lanterns come with batteries?
Our 65-LED kit ships with twelve AA batteries, so it lights straight out of the box. The 3-way lanterns have a built-in rechargeable battery and take AA cells as a backup.
