Choosing solar path lights for a walkway
A walk needs two things after dark: a clear edge and no glare in the eyes. That is why our pathway lights sit low, around 15 to 18 inches, and throw their light down and out rather than up. The filament models read like little lanterns; the disc lights wash the ground in a flat, even circle.
Pack size is really about path length. A 6 or 8 pack lines a front walk of 20 to 25 feet on one side; a 12 pack does both sides, or runs the full length of a driveway. Buying the larger pack keeps every light from the same batch, so the glow colour matches stake to stake.
Quick answers
How far apart should pathway lights go?
For a glowing edge, 5 to 6 feet between stakes on each side of the walk; for a continuous ribbon, 3 to 4 feet. Our taller driveway lights throw a wider pool, so you can stretch them to 7 or 8 feet.
Do they stay on all night?
On a full day of direct sun, our pathway lights run from dusk into the small hours and often to dawn. Shade, short winter days and a dusty panel shorten the shift — wipe the panel and give the stake the sunniest spot you have.
Warm white or cool white?
Most of our path lights glow 3000K warm — the colour of a porch bulb. A few models add a cool-white or colour mode behind a switch under the cap.
